Ancient whispers

Rolling blue hills under dreamy grey skies

pine scent in the air, longing in the wind

Her spirit stirred.

let’s get away, she said,

run into the forest

hide under the maples

hear raindrops on leaves,

laugh away our fears.

he said, it’s damp in the woods

it’s dark in the woods

it’s cold in the woods

bugs bite in the woods

bears chase you in the woods you long to run into.

They never went,

but the trees kept calling

ancient whispers

for her ears alone

Come away, they said,

get away, in the woods it is safe,

forest carries you in its velvet lap

you can lie on the moss, drink dew from the leaves.

chase dreams in the streams,

find you soul in the silence.

The storm came

broke the windows of her home

at last she knew

why she had to go.
